Dr. Judy Ranka received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a Master of Arts degree in Education and Work from Macquarie University, North Ryde, NSW, Australia and a Doctor of Health Science from the University of Sydney, Australia. She initially worked as an occupational therapist at Children’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Center / The Faxton Hospital in Utica, New York, and briefly at an Easter Seal facility in Dover, New Hampshire and a private regional educational service in Derry, New Hampshire. This was followed by an extended period at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago where she was an OT Supervisor in Adult Neurology.

On moving to Australia, Dr. Ranka was employed by Cumberland College of Health Sciences, now the University of Sydney. While at the University, she was a Lecturer in the Discipline of Occupational Therapy, and continues to hold an Honorary Lecturer position at this institution. She has a long history as an educator of occupational therapy students at undergraduate and post graduate levels both in formal degree programs and through continuing professional education on a local, national and international scale. She often addresses therapists and disseminates her work at professional conferences and symposia in Australia and elsewhere. Dr. Ranka is a past recipient of the Cumberland College Excellence in Teaching Award and the OT Australia Award for Excellence in OT Education.

In 2012, Dr. Ranka left formal employment at the University and established a private practice in occupational therapy with a focus on education, research, consultation and direct service. Her current research interests include occupational therapy theory development, ecological assessment and intervention for cognitive strategy application disorders in adults with neurological disorders (including HIV Associated Neurocognitive Disorder), and ecological assessment and intervention for reach, grasp and release disorders in adults with neurological disorders. Simultaneously, she formed the Occupational Performance Network, of which she is managing director and principal occupational therapist. This website is the official website of the Occupational Performance Network.
