PRPP Assessment Course – Quebec

4-8 June – PRPP Assessment Course
Société de formation en ergothérapie de Québec
Quebec City, Canada

NOTE: This course will be taught in English.

The PRPP Assessment is a standardised, client centred, criterion referenced, occupational therapy assessment of occupational performance. It is used with clients of any age, gender, diagnosis, or cultural background whose performance is compromised by difficulties with the cognitive demands of occupations. The assessment yields information about performance mastery and cognitive strategy application capacity. Strategy application behaviours assessed align with dimensions of attention and perception (P), learning, memory and recall (R), planning, decision-making and judgment (P), and the capacity to act on decisions and follow-through with plans (P). The PRPP assessment is used internationally, and has been translated into several languages. It has established validity in a variety of practice domains including neurology, mental health, learning disabilities, autism, chronic pain, HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders, and dementia. Acceptable reliability has been demonstrated following training.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Describe the occupational therapy, neurosciences and educational foundation of the assessment, and its psychometric properties.
2. Assess and score task performance mastery from videotaped examples of client performances using Stage One of the PRPP Assessment.
3. Assess and score cognitive strategy application behaviours applied to tasks on dimensions of perceive, recall, plan and perform from videotaped examples of client performances using Stage Two of the PRPP Assessment.
4. Write specific, measureable mastery and strategy application goals for clients assessed.
5. Use the PRPP Assessment as a client centred outcome measure of occupational performance.
6. Understand the implications of assessment findings for occupational therapy intervention.

PRESENTERS:
This course will be taught by Dr. Chris Chapparo and Dr. Judy Ranka. Both presenters are occupational therapists, researchers and educators with extensive national and international teaching experience.

AUDIENCE: Qualified Occupational Therapists

PRPP Intervention Course – Quebec City

11-15 June – PRPP Intervention Course
Société de formation en ergothérapie de Québec
Quebec City, Canada

The Perceive, Recall, Plan & Perform Intervention is designed for use by occupational therapists who have completed a PRPP Assessment course. The intervention approach aims to improve task performance mastery by addressing the specific cognitive strategy application behaviours identified through PRPP assessment as most impacting on mastery. Instructional methods used to address these behaviours incorporate cues and prompts that align with specific perceive, recall, plan and perform processing operations and preferences. The efficacy of this approach has been observed in children and adults with a variety of diagnoses and conditions that impact on everyday cognition, and demonstrated through research with adults with traumatic brain impairment and children with social and behavioural difficulties.

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast PRPP Intervention with other forms of occupational therapy task- focused methods
  2. Select critical strategy application behaviours to address in therapy
  3. Set measureable occupational performance goals for task mastery and strategy application
  4. Design a detailed plan to build strategy application behaviours required to improve or maintain performance mastery

PRESENTERS:
This course will be taught by Dr. Chris Chapparo, Senior Lecturer, University of Sydney and Dr. Judy Ranka, Honorary Lecturer, University of Sydney and Private Practitioner. Both presenters are occupational therapists, researchers and educators with extensive national and international teaching experience.
